Hello Sidecar Doughnuts Torrance!

Hello Sidecar Doughnuts Torrance!

Zoom zoom! Hello Kitty rolled 🚗 into Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance recently to check out the new Sidecar Doughnuts.

First established in 2012; the Torrance location  is the fourth Sidecar Doughnuts location. The other shops are Costa Mesa, Santa Monica and Del Mar.

Ever since their first shop in Costa Mesa; Sidecar Doughnuts has been committed to serving the “World’s Freshest Doughnut.” I (along with Hello Kitty 😉) saw this first hand when I visited the new Torrance location. This new location has a big window where visitors can see happy workers busy preparing fresh doughnuts. The doughnuts are fried in small batches every hour. Each doughnut has unique and delightful ingredients such as foraged huckleberries and Niman Ranch bacon. There’s even the the Basil Eggs Benrdict which has a poached egg and Benton’s ham.

This October was the perfect time for me to visit Sidecar Doughnuts because they have a Fall month specials featuring my favorite pumpkin! They have the Vegan Pumpkin Chai; a Vegan pumpkin cake doughnut, topped with warm-spiced vanilla chai glaze. There is also the Pumpkin Pie and Everything Nice; which is a bullseye doughnut, topped with pumpkin glaze, whipped mascarpone pumpkin mousse, house made ginger snap crumble, roasted & salted pepitas, and Vermont Maple Syrup.

The Pumpkin Pie and Everything Nice was my favorite. I loved how the pumpkin flavor simply exploded out of this delectable treat. The pumpkin mousse oozed out. I also liked the crunch that the ginger snap crumble and the pepitas gave.

Not only did their monthly specials include an ode to the pumpkin; they also had a special donut in honor of Filipino American History Month. Chef Chad Valencia of Lasa LA  partnered with Sidecar Doughnuts to bring us all the Manila Vanilla Sweet Potato.

Sweet Potato in Tagalog is ‘Kamote,”  Chef Valencia took inspiration from kamote cue a famous street snack in the Philippines and created  this sweet potato & vanilla cake doughnut. He then topped it with brown butter-muscovado glaze and Maldon Sea Salt.

At first bite, I instantly tasted the sweet potato and my senses were transported back to the sweet streets of Manila.

Not only will you be treated to the best sweet potato doughnut when you purchase this but you will also be helping a good cause.  A portion of proceeds of every doughnut sold goes to Immigrant Families Together.

Alongside the fresh doughnuts, Sidecar Doughnuts offers some fresh and tasty coffee too! Their lattes here are amazing. I tried the latte with Jacobsen sea salt caramel and this cup of Joe went well with the doughnuts.

You are sure to smile with Sidecar Doughnuts. Zoom zoom! Roll on over to Rolling Hills Plaza and check out the new Sidecar Doughnuts! I’ll be sure to be rollin in again soon. 🙂

Hello Kitty Pumpkin Patch @ Tanaka Farms!

It is the start of October and Fall is here! As many of my Hello Kitty Foodies know this is the start of my favorite pumpkin season! This year I got to kick off the start of Fall and pumpkin season with two of my favorites; pumpkins and Hello Kitty at Tanaka Farms!

Two years ago on this blog I shared the start of the collaboration between Sanrio and Tanaka Farms in Irvine. Since then the collaboration has brought Hello Kitty enthusiasts to Orange County. At the farm; guests can enjoy a wagon ride around the 30 acre farm that features several wonderful photo ops with Hello Kitty and her friends!

My Melody welcomes visitors to the sweet strawberry fields.

Hello Kitty welcomes guests to enjoy a sunshine filled day where the sunflowers grow!

There’s a U-Pick veggie garden where one can pick seasonal veggies such as radishes! Hello Kitty loves being healthy and picking fresh vegetables!

There’s a giant corn maze where one can see stalks of corn. Hello Kitty is excited to see if you can figure out the maze!

During pumpkin season can see pumpkins of all sizes! Among the pumpkins one can see Cinderella pumpkins, Fairytale pumpkins, Porcelain Doll pumpkins, Jarrandale pumpkins and Polar Bear pumpkins!

The Fall Harvest Festival at Tanaka Farms is every weekend from September 21-October 31. Say “Hello” to Tanaka Farms and you are sure to “Fall” in love with the annual pumpkin patch featuring Hello Kitty and Sanrio friends!

Hello Sanrio Fun @ Tanaka Farms!

Hello Sanrio Fun @ Tanaka Farms!

I love the season of Fall! Fall brings us the wonderful color changes of the leaves, crisp, cool weather and my favorite pumpkin season. I am therefore so excited that for this first week of Fall, a very special collaboration between Sanrio and Tanaka farms will be launching!

The Irvine based farm Tanaka Farms and Sanrio are coming together for a year-long partnership where Hello Kitty and her friends; Chococat, My Melody, Keroppi, and Pochacco, will become ambassadors to the farm.  Our favorite Sanrio friends will be play a special role in the educational programming provided by Tanaka Farms and visitors will learn the importance of healthy eating, as well as sustainability, responsible farming and agriculture. Best of all they can do this all while supporting their local community.

The collaboration kicks off with the super cute Tanaka Farms’ Pumpkin Patch this September 30. There will be lots fun all around the farm such a corn maze, a “U-Pick Veggie” garden and super cute photo ops around the farm with Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Chococat, My Melody and Pochacco. Then on October 28, there will even be a super cute Halloween  Sanrio costume contest!

The fun doesn’t stop however with the pumpkin patch because there will be many seasonal celebrations throughout the year! During the holiday season, there will be a Christmas Tree Farm. Next spring there will be strawberry picking and next summer there will be a melon celebration! Hello Kitty fun in the farm through all the seasons is in store for us!

There will also be a limited edition collection of commemorative Sanrio ♥ Tanaka Farms merchandise  that will also be available for purchase at the Farm’s Market Stand.

The Sanrio and Tanaka Farms is one very special partnership. It is educational and promotes healthy eating and awareness. Thank you to Sanrio and Tanaka Farms for bringing another wonderful thing for us Hello Kitty Foodies to look forward to this Fall and beyond.

Hello Be Still My Heart, It’s You (again) Pumpkin!

Hello Be Still My Heart, It’s You (again) Pumpkin!

It’s that time of year again….it’s time for the great big pumpkin haul, Hello Kitty err..Charlie Brown! Yes, it’s the time when my hearts beats a little faster for my pumpkin love.

My pumpkin crush started a little bit early this year thanks to some free birthday goodies I received.

The week of my birthday, Starbucks came out with my forever favorite PSL and pumpkin frappuccino. My free birthday drink of choice was of course no other than the pumpkin frappucino. This drink simply was the answer to the hot Southern California days we’ve been having lately.

Similar to Starbucks, Corner Bakery Cafe, gave me granted my birthday wish for more pumpkin galore with an amazingly soft and moist pumpkin bundt cake. The pumpkin flavor was abundant and I loved the mix of nuts that they added in.

Soon after my birthday, the pumpkin treats started appearing every where and it was to my pleasant surprise to find pumpkin spice oreos! I thought I was in love when red velvet oreos came out a couple months ago but those have nothing on these lovelies!  These delights consist of vanilla oreo cookies filled with sweet orange creme that has a hint of cinnamon flavor and a bit of nutmeg.

From the pumpkin birthday treats to the oreos, you would think my pumpkin crush would be at it’s peak but it’s really not until I go to Trader Joe’s. It’s at that store, that my heart beats a little faster, my step gets a extra little spring and I feel like bursting into song when I see all the pumpkin love.

This year my Trader Joe’s pumpkin consisted of all kinds of treats from breakfast goodies to dessert delights! Even the Trader Joe’s cashier noticed and made a comment on how my basket had “a whole lot of pumpkin.”

Every day can be a happy pumpkin day! What better way to start off the day then with some pumpkin breakfast!

First in my list of pumpkin morning delights are Trader Joe’s Pumpkin O’s. These Pumpkin O’s are low fat, vegan, gluten free and have a whole lot of pumpkin flavor in them. They are made of toasted whole grain cereal with brown rice, oats and pumpkin!

Next breakfast treat I got from TJ was the pecan pumpkin oatmeal. This healthy treat is made of whole grain oats, pumpkin and pecans! Who says oatmeal can’t taste good? This holiday oatmeal is out to prove all the oatmeal doubters wrong!

The morning pumpkin love did not stop with the pumpkin o’s and oatmeal however because I got pumpkin waffles! These crispy waffle treats are wonderful!

Breakfast of course would not be complete without some coffee! As I mentioned earlier, Starbucks’ PSL is my forever favorite but Trader Joe’s has a quick fix to PSL cravings with their pumpkin spice coffee! Their medium roast version is full of the pumpkin spice delightful flavor. The pumpkin aroma when brewing is a perfect kick start to the day

From breakfast, we move on to lunch, where once again Trader Joe’s offers up a nice healthy pumpkin treat via their Harvest Blend Salad. This salad is packed with flavors of fall with hearty kale greens, pumpkin cornbread croutons, roasted pumpkin seeds, dates, raisins and pumpkin vinaigrette!

After breakfast and lunch comes snacks and desserts. From salty to sweet, Trader Joe’s has it!

It was to much delight that I saw pumpkin tortilla chips.  These tortilla chips are made with real pumpkin puree and pumpkin seeds. They’ve got a little hint of cinnamon and nutmeg as well to further enhance the fall flavor. It’s sweet, crispy and just the little perfect pumpkin snack! They would be perfect with a little pumpkin hummus! 😉

Another delightful treat I got is Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Ice cream! It is pumpkin pie in ice cream form. It’s perfectly creamy and packed with pumpkin pie flavor. Hot day blues are sure to melt away with a scoop of this ice crew,.

Last but definitely not the least is pumpkin spice pie cookie butter! OMG I thought Trader Joe’s had my heart with their regular cookie butter but this pumpkin spice pie cookie butter just won me over for life. I didn’t know cookie butter could get any better but this concoction, just exceeded all kinds of cookie butter expectations. It has just the right of pumpkin flavor and goes great with anything!

Be still my heart, indeed! Pumpkin, you will forever be my crush! Thanks for always making my heart happy and full of smiles.

Hello Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Haul!

Hello Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Haul!

It’s no secret that I have a pumpkin crush. I don’t know how exactly when or how this pumpkin love started but every time the month of October rolls around, I get all excited with the the thoughts of pumpkin-licious treats. I leave it to your imagination about how giddy I was when I spotted the “pumpkin mania” sign that was at the front of my local Trader Joe’s.

I only get this kinda happiness at one other place and that’s the Sanrio Store. (Yes, that’s how much I love pumpkin goodies. I love it almost at the same level as hello kitty!) Shocking, I know.

The hardest thing for me that day was picking what pumpkin treats I wanted. It took some discipline to not buy every pumpkin treat there was! Organic pumpkin toaster pastries! Pumpkin soup! Pumpkin biscotti! Pumpkin croutons! Ahh I am all pumpkin-in love! It was hard to choose. At the end of the trip however, I came out with a pretty nice selection of various pumpkin treats (I didn’t buy everything…*sigh* but still came out with a fair spread!)

I chose to get a some pumpkin spice granola for breakfast! It’s a breakfast of pumpkin champions with this treat filled with granola clusters, grain oats, honey, and raisins. It’s a perfect taste of fall flavor with the pumpkin spices and hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger!

To go along with the pumpkin spice granola in the morning, I also bought some pumpkin spice chai. This is Trader Joe’s take on the traditional Indian drink masala chai with a pumpkin twist. It starts off with that mixed spice tea base. The chai tea blend of honey, vanilla and black tea is then mixed with cinnamon, anise, clove, cardamom, ginger and pumpkin pie spices. It’s such a heartwarming drink with the perfect pumpkin spice taste.

I also could not resist getting the iced pumpkin scone cookies! These were too adorable and delicious looking to pass up! They are small scones that look like cookies. They are made with real pumpkin and cinnamon and nut meg spices.

Aside from the scones, I got another sweet pumpkin treat in Pumpkin Joe Joe’s. They are crispy pumpkin cookies with creamy pumpkin creme filling! These truly make my little pumpkin heart flutter with delight.

Last but not least, I could not pass up on pumpkin pie mochi ice cream! This is my pumpkin dream come true. It is all my favorites rolled in on. They’ve got the sweet and soft mochi sticky rice! They’ve got the sweet and delicious pumpkin ice cream! They’ve got the pumpkin pie perfect flavor with the pumpkin pie spices and chunks of graham cookie pieces. This pumpkin treat is my number one!

Every year I am simply full of smiles with the pumpkin treats I’ve found at Trader Joe’s! From the pumpkin macarons I’ve had in the past to the pumpkin tea, I am a fan of it all! This year once again, I am thrilled with my new pumpkin discoveries! This pumpkin love, reels me back in every single time… 😉 Pumpkin giddy, yes, I am!

Hello pumpkin squares!

Hello pumpkin squares!

Ingredients: Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix, Eggs, Vegetable Oil, Water

It’s no secret that I love pumpkin and it was pretty apparent in the fall postings that I had in this blog and for South Bay Foodies. Earlier, I wrote about finding pumpkin bread mix at Trader Joe’s. I was so excited to try and make something with it.

It’s very simple to make something with this pumpkin bread mix. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine the mix, eggs, water and oil in a bowl and mix until smooth. Pour into a baking pan sprayed with non-stick spray and then place in the oven for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

In 40 minutes, my kitchen was filled with the sweet aroma of fresh baked pumpkin bread. I cut the bread into little squares and tah dah…perfectly pumpkin-licious petite treats! Yay!
