Hello Foodie Jenn Year in Review 2025!

2025 was a year full of wonderful surprises! From collaborating with some of my favorite spots to traveling to Mexico, the Philippines (the biggest surprise of the year!), and Taiwan, I was blessed with so many unforgettable experiences. While I loved exploring flavors around the world—memories I’ll cherish forever 🙂—I realized there’s truly no place like home. For this year-end review, I’m highlighting some of the best new food and drink spots that opened in the South Bay this year.

Bread, Espresso & (Blog post: February 2025)

Bread, Espresso, & a beloved Japanese bakery with 37 locations in Japan opened their first flagship location in Redondo Beach this winter! Their famous Mou bread is soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet—practically melts in your mouth. Pair it with a fresh cup of coffee, and it’s easy to see why this spot quickly became a favorite.

Gomaichi Ramen (Blog post: April 2025)

As a ramen enthusiast, I instantly fell for Gomaichi Ramen. The Tan Tan Ramen is a must-try, with a rich sesame base and a perfect kick of spice. Each slurp is bold, flavorful, and comforting—the kind of bowl that keeps you coming back.

Mama D’s (Blog post: May 2025)

Mama D’s in Rolling Hills Plaza quickly became my go-to spot for pasta. Their Famous Pink Sauce with Angel Hair Pasta is velvety, rich, and indulgent without being overwhelming—a comforting dish that feels like a warm hug in every bite.

Ramen Sumiya (Blog post: June 2025)

Ramen lovers, rejoice! Ramen Sumiya specializes in Japanese ramen with a creamy, chicken chowder-style broth. The result is heartwarming and flavorful, with layers of savory richness that make it a true standout.

Cafe Dolce (Yelp review: June 2025)

Cafe Dolce’s coffee is a treat. The in-house vanilla bean syrup adds just the right touch of sweetness to their drip coffee, and the ube latte perfectly complements their fresh pastries. A delightful spot for both coffee lovers and dessert enthusiasts.

Urbane Cafe (Blog post: July 2025)

When Urbane Cafe opened in Rancho Palos Verdes, I quickly became a fan of their healthy yet flavorful sandwiches. The housemade focaccia bread is soft, airy, and full of flavor, making each sandwich unforgettable.

Chagee Tea House (Blog post: August 2025)

Chagee Tea House, now in Del Amo, has some of my favorite tea offerings. The Peach Oolong Tea is fragrant, smooth, and refreshing—a perfect balance of sweetness and floral notes that makes it easy to sip all afternoon.

First Flight Coffee (Blog post: August 2025)

Their Hazelnut Latte is silky, nutty, and full of true hazelnut goodness. And don’t miss the Crookie—a hybrid of flaky croissant and soft cookie, perfect for pairing with your coffee.

Pasta Stories (Blog post: October 2025)

Inside Tokyo Central in Torrance, Pasta Stories puts a Japanese spin on classic pasta dishes. My favorite, Kyoto: Matcha Cream Pasta, combines tender chicken and mushrooms in a green tea Alfredo sauce—a comforting yet unique flavor experience.

Chrome Coffee (Yelp review: October 2025)

I tried their Banana Latte, a subtle and sweet take on the classic, with a gentle banana flavor that’s light yet satisfying—perfect for pairing with their pastries or enjoying solo.

Stay Coffee (Blog post: November 2025)

Stay Coffee in Lawndale offers more than just amazing drinks. The Banana Banana Kick Matcha is a must-try, and the Truffle Garlic Pasta is rich, savory, and indulgent—a true testament to the creativity happening in the South Bay this year.

2025 reminded me that exploring the world is incredible, but discovering flavors close to home is just as magical. From ramen and pasta to coffee and tea, the South Bay delivered some truly memorable culinary experiences this year. I can’t wait to see what 2026 brings—more new spots, more flavors, and more delicious adventures, both near and far!
