It’s no secret that I’m a ramen lover through and through, so you can imagine my excitement when I spotted a new ramen spot opening up right here in Torrance, California, called Ramen Sumiya. I hadn’t realized they had an original location in Sawtelle, so this was my first time experiencing them—and I’m so happy they’re now in the South Bay!
Ramen Sumiya specializes in Japanese ramen with a rich, creamy chicken chowder-style broth, a unique and cozy twist that instantly caught my attention. They offer five different chicken chowder ramen options: Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen, Creamy Chicken Char Siu Ramen, Rich Chicken Ramen, Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen, and Creamy Chicken Shoyu Ramen. Beyond that, they’ve got Pork Char Siu Ramen, Sho-Yu Ramen, and Vegan Ramen, plus rice bowls and classic sides like karaage and gyoza.
For my first visit, I tried two of their most popular bowls: the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen and the Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen, both bursting with flavor.
The Japanese BBQ Ramen was one of the most unique bowls I’ve ever had. It’s topped with charcoal-grilled chicken, and that deep, smoky flavor really stood out in the best way. The charcoal-grilled chicken added a bold, unexpected twist that took this bowl to the next level—it elevated the ramen in a whole new (and seriously delicious) way!

The Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen brought a bold, fiery kick that I absolutely loved. It came with four generous pieces of tender chicken char siu, all nestled in a rich, flavorful broth. The house-made noodles were silky and springy. The seasoned egg was perfectly cooked. Every bite hit the spot.

I had such a great first experience at Ramen Sumiya, and I already know it won’t be my last. Torrance just got a serious ramen gem, and this ramen girl couldn’t be happier!
