Hello Kozo Sushi Japanese Sushi Kitchen!

Hello Kozo Sushi Japanese Sushi Kitchen!

Just this path month an amazing new Japanese restaurant opened up at the Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance, California. Kozo Sushi Japanese Sushi Kitchen had their grand opening on April 1, 2022. Kozo Sushi originated in Japan in 1964 as takeout sushi place and now 58 years later the popular sushi takeout spot is now in the South Bay!

Similar to their original location; Kozo Sushi Japanese Sushi Kitchen specializes in sushi. One can mix and match to create your own sushi set or you can pick your favorite from their abundant selection. At the Torrance location they have 5 different signature sushi, 6 soy rolls and 24 different signature rolls. They even have one signature roll that was made specifically for the Torrance location. The Torrance Roll can only be found in Torrance and has shrimp tempura, cucumber, salmon, spicy mayo, sweet and hot sauce tempura, salmon spicy mayo and sweet and hot sauce.

My favorite here is the Tempura California Roll. It comes with Kanikama, Avocado, Cucumber and Sesame Sauce. It has the perfect crispy texture and I simply love that crunch at first bite!

Though sushi is their speciality; there are a lot more delightful dishes that can be found at Kozo Sushi Japanese Sushi Kitchen. They’ve got appetizers (edamame, takoyaki, sashimi, gyoza dumplings, tofu nuggets, teriyaki chicken, tempura, egg rolls, karaage), bowls (Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, Beef Sukiyaki Bowl, Mix of Chicken and Beef Bowl), noodles (Shrimp Tempura Udon, Chicken Udon, Beef Sukiyaki Udon), Curry Rice (Katsu Curry, Chicken Karaage Curry) and salads (Green Salad, Seaweed Salad, Teriyaki Chicken Salad, Soft Shell Crab Salad). It is definitely an amazing menu full of yummy Japanese dishes.

Being a karaage and curry lover; I just had to check out their Chicken Karaage Curry. I was definitely pleased with this curry. The curry sauce has just the right spice. It’s not too spicy but definitely has enough of a fiery kick to delight one’s tastebuds. The curry sauce is also thick and perfect over the rice.

There is definitely plenty to choose from at Kozo Sushi Japanese Sushi Kitchen and so one of my favorite things to do is to get a 3 item customized combo. It’s the perfect way to try a variety of things. The 3 item combo comes with your choice of main items including a roll if you’d like. It also comes with white or brown rice and miso soup.

I love being able to mix and match my favorite items. My favorites include karaage chicken, tempura and the California rolls. The Karaage chicken always comes out hot and fresh from their kitchen and is so crispy. Similar to that is the tempura. I love the crunchy texture of the tempura.

58 years after their first location in Japan; Kozo Sushi Japanese Kitchen continues to introduce delicious Japanese food to many. I am definitely happy that they have their newest location in Torrance. I have tried a variety of their food and can say each time I visit I leave happy and full.

Hello dineLA at Copper Pot Indian Grill and Cafe!

Hello dineLA at Copper Pot Indian Grill and Cafe!

Indian cuisine is definitely one of my favorite types of cuisines in the world. I am always on the lookout for a good place for some Indian food and just this past week I discovered a new Indian food in Redondo Beach; thanks to dineLA! Copper Pot Indian Grill and Cafe just opened this past 2021 and has a variety of different dishes and drinks from North and South India. The dineLA offering that they had this past week allowed me to try several different things from the menu.

Their dineLA offering consisted of getting soup, bread, entree and a drink.

For the soup; I tried the Mulligatawny Soup while my mom tried the Crab Laksa. It was my first time ever to try Mulligatawny soup and I instantly became a fan of this soup. It has a bit of curry along with coconut flavoring and then is topped off with fried shallots. I loved the overall creaminess of this soup.

I also got to try a little bit of the Crab Laksa. It’s a Anglo-Indian lentil broth, served with a dollop of yogurt. This one is similar to the Mulligatawny soup in terms of creaminess. I thought it also had a slight coconut flavor. The main difference is the touch of crab. It definitely has that seafood after taste.

Accompanying our soup and entrees were Garlic Naan and Butter Naan bread. Copper Pot serves their breads fresh from the oven and piping hot! It’s perfect for dipping.

For our entrees; we got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Andhra Chicken Curry. The Chicken Tikka Masala at Copper Pot is excellent. I loved how the dish was filled with a lot boneless marinated chicken pieces in buttery, creamy sauce. It was so perfect with basmati rice as well as the naan bread. I loved the mild and nutty flavor of their Chicken Tikka Masala.

The Andhra Chicken Curry had a bit more fiery and spicy kick to it. If you like spice; this dish is for you. This curry is a bit different as it has  special blend masala from Andhra region of India. The freshly roasted spices blended with the chicken produced quite a unique taste in this curry.

I also got to enjoyed Mango Lassi here and it was one sweet and tasty drink!

I am definitely happy to have another great place for Indian food in the South Bay! स्वादिष्ट!

Hello Bon Devil Ganaches!

All of heaven is about to break loose. Just recently new brand Bon Devil launched. Formerly known as The Collaborative; the Bon Devil revealed their devilish new identity at Expo West and along with it launched a delicious line of ganaches.

Devilish on the outside, and angelic on the inside, Bon-Devil debuted the ultimate unguilty pleasures via angelic 1.6 cup of plant-based dessert made from coconuts. To hell with dairy, gluten, lactose and evil GMOs! To heaven with flavors! Bon Devil has four tempting ganaches in four heavenly flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Salted Caramel Choc & Caramelized Banana Ganaches.

My personal favorite is the Salted Caramel Chocolate. I love the dark chocolate flavor with sweet touch of salted caramel. The best part of all is that I feel guilt free from eating it. It is not loaded with sugars but loaded with flavors!

Death to guilt with the guilt free Bon Devil ganaches! You too can be set free. 😉 Bon Devil’s delicious coconut based desserts can be found in major US groceries.

Hello Hanky’s Hot Chicken!

Hello Hanky’s Hot Chicken!

Comin’ in hot from Torrance, California! There’s a new hot chicken spot in the South Bay and it’s no other than Hanky’s Hot Chicken. Hanky’s Hot Chicken is located at Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance and in close proximity to the ACM Theaters. It’s perfect place to dine during movie nights or when about and about shopping at the plaza.

Being a hot chicken fan; I had been eagerly awaiting the opening of Hanky’s Hot Chicken and this week they finally had their grand opening. It is family owned and operated and also co-owned by another South Bay favorite; Caps and Corks. I love the breakfast burritos and tacos at Caps and Corks and it is no surprise that I am now loving the food from Hanky’s Hot Chicken. Move over Nashville; Torrance has some amazing chicken dishes! Hanky’s Hot Chicken menu consists of a variety of delicious hot chicken delights; from breakfast burritos to chicken sandwiches to even chicken and waffles.

For my first visit here; I tried the Fried Classic Chicken Sandwich, Loaded Tots along with some Mexican Coke.

One cannot go wrong with the Fried Classic sandwich. This has fried chicken breast smothered with mayo and layered with lettuce all on a buttery brioche bun. I loved the overall crisp of the sandwich and it was perfect when smothered or dipped into Hanky’s Hot Chicken dipping sauces! There are three dipping sauces: buttermilk ranch, honey mustard and comeback sauce. Each of the sauces gave a different delicious flavor and touch to the sandwich. The honey mustard was slightly on the sweet side. The ranch was a simple yet yummy classic sauce. The comeback sauce (my personal favorite) has a slight spicy kick!

The Loaded Tots with tenders, mac and cheese, cole slaw, green onion and drizzled with cheese sauce and comeback sauce made for a perfect pair with the Fried Classic sandwich. These tots are ooey, gooey, messy and oh so delicious! Get some napkins because you’ll need it. It’s such drool worthy large portion of food! It’s perfect for sharing. These were definitely on the top of my favorites here. I love how there is just a variety of food all packed into one dish. The chicken tenders in it give diners a good taste of the yummy chicken. The mac and cheese in this dish is cheesy and rich. The coleslaw has the perfect mayo mix. I love how everything comes together and just gives that oomph of flavor!

Aside from great food; they’ve got a variety of refreshing drinks from lemonades to bottles and cans. I had a Mexican coke with my meal and it perfectly paired with the sandwich. At the end; I also got to enjoy a sweet treat via the Strawberry milkshake! It was the perfect way to end a meal here.

They say “Life is like a box of tenders”……well life at Hanky’s Hot Chicken sure is great!

The food here is so “cluckin hot!”

Hello Dan Modern Chinese @ Manhattan Village!

Hello Dan Modern Chinese @ Manhattan Village!

Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach, California is truly becoming the go-to spot when in the Beach Cities! They’e been adding so many great shops and delicious restaurants in the past year that I’m also so excited to dine and shop. The latest restaurant to open up is Dan Modern Chinese. Dan Modern Chinese has four other locations in Southern California; Pasadena, Playa Vista, Santa Monica and Sawtelle (Go Bruins!). The Manhattan Beach location is their fifth and newest location am I am beyond thrilled to have Dan Modern Chinese in the Beach Cities.

With dumplings, noodles, fried rice and garlic filled veggies; it’s not surprising that I love this place. As a testament to how this place is my new favorite; I’ve already tried their cuisine twice this month.

A must try item on their menu is definitely their dumplings. They’ve got two main types: Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) and Handmade Dumplings. Both are handmade on site. The Xiao Long Bao is their signature dish. It’s steamed and filled with the most heart warming, soothing broth! Choice of fillings include chicken, pork, shrimp, dungeness crab and veggie. The Handmade Dumplings can be either ordered steamed, pan fried or crispy. The crispy version is definitely a treat as it comes with a thin crispy bottom layer! The crispy is not only a fun food item; it’s quite a delicious one too!

To accompany their dumplings; I either get the fried rice or their dan mein. I love fried rice but do have to say their dan mein is on the top of my favorite sides. I love the long, handmade thick noodles, snow pea leaves, garlic sauce along with my choice of protein; short rib.

Another great item here that I love is their Beef Roll. This item is on their small plates section of their menu but is not small in any means. The rolls are packed with oxtail, cucumbers, green onions and cilantro. It’s definitely filling and quite the treat.

Last but not least; the vegetable dishes should not be missed. Often veggies don’t get enough love but I highly recommend to try one or more of their vegetable dishes here. They pack their veggies with lots of flavor and lots of garlic. If you’re a garlic fan; you definitely don’t want the miss vegetables.

Dan Modern Chinese is a welcome addition to Manhattan Beach! It is true beach cities bliss to dine here!

Hello Dim Sum 101!

Hello Dim Sum 101!

Dim Sum 101 may sound like an ultimate foodie lover’s course in college but it’s actually the name of the newest dim sum place in the South Bay! Just this past February 2022; Dim Sum 101 opened up in Lomita, California and it has already won the hearts of many dim sum lovers such as myself.

The restaurant is cute and quaint and similarly their menu is small and basic. Dim Sum 101 however has all the essential dishes for all of us dim sum foodies. They’ve got dumplings, porridge, buns, sticky rice, rice noodles and yes for the ultimate dim fan; they have chicken feet! They definitely had several of my favorites and I was quite one happy foodie eating here.

My food orders here consisted of Sticky Rice, Bean Curd Veggie Roll, Preserved Egg and Pork Porridge, Beef Rice Noodle, Fried Dumpling and Chicken Feet. I definitely wanted to try a variety and that can be seen in my choices that ranged from vegetarian to not so vegetarian (hehe chicken feet!). I have to say that Dim Sum 101 knows their dim sum. Hey; if you’re restaurant sounds like a college course; you better have food that passes the culinary grade. I’m happy to say this course…err restaurant is passing with flying colors. Their dim sum was full of flavor and well worth the value. (Majority of their dishes are $5.68). Among the things I ordered; my top picks were the Bean Curd Veggie Roll along the Preserved Egg and Pork Porridge.

Dim Sum 101 gets a A in my book!

Hello Birthday Celebration at Eddie V’s!

Hello Birthday Celebration at Eddie V’s!

My boyfriend recently celebrated his birthday and we had a wonderful dinner at Eddie V’s in El Segundo, California. Eddie V’s had opened up their South Bay location in middle of 2021 and it truly was so nice to finally dine at this special place for a very special occasion.

The evening started off in a festive and happy way. When we got to our reserved table; the table was beautifully decorated with sparkly and colorful Happy Birthday confetti. There was also a Happy Birthday card given by the restaurant in the center.

Soon after; we were off to indulge in some delicious birthday food! First up; was a starter salad. My boyfriend loves salads and we truly were in for a treat with Eddie V’s Warm Goat Cheese Salad.

The Warm Goat Cheese Salad is definitely on the top of my lists of best salads we’ve had. This salad consisted of arugula, roasted wild mushrooms and drizzled with cider vinaigrette dressing. I love mushrooms and the wild mushrooms in this salad gave an additional nice flavor and texture to the arugula. I also loved the goat cheese and the creamy flavors.

Eddie V’s is primarily known for seafood and my boyfriend who loves salmon; chose to get the Norwegian Salmon for his entree. Aside from seafood however; they also have some premium hand cut steaks. For my entree I got the Center Cut Filet Mignon topped with parmesan and horseradish crust. We decide to get the sides of Truffled Macaroni and Cheese and Crispy Brussels Sprouts to accompany our entrees.

My entree was quite the treat. Getting the additional parmesan and horseradish crust on top of my filet mignon was the perfect touch. I absolutely loved the enhanced flavors it gave me the filet mignon. The sides we got also paired very well with the entree. There was plenty of truffles on top of the creamy and rich Macaroni and Cheese. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts had a Korean glaze along with some peanuts. It was sweet and spicy. I loved how the Asian flavors gave such a unique touch to this side.

The salad and the entrees were wonderful but no birthday wouldn’t be complete without dessert. Eddie V’s gave a wonderful birthday surprise with a complimentary Bananas Foster Butter Cake.

This dessert was flambéed tableside and was a treat to see. Who doesn’t like a little bit of a fiery touch? This gave a whole new meaning to birthday candles.

I can’t even say what my favorite part of this dessert was because every part of it was amazing! I loved the way it was presented snf I absolutely loved every tasty component of the dessert! I Along side the butter cake was some dark chocolate cookies along with a fruit ice cream. I may just be drooling thinking about how good this dessert was. The butter cake was so soft and the bananas foster had just the right sugar and cinnamon taste to it. Birthday cakes will never be the same after this dessert.

A night at Eddie V’s was truly a night to remember and I highly recommend this place to anyone celebrating a special occasion.

Hello Croissant Crush!

Hello Croissant Crush!

It’s National Croissant Day today and in honor of today; I’d like to share about my quest to find the best in the croissants in the South Bay! I confess I have a croissant crush! I love the buttery, flaky crust of croissants and luckily the South Bay has some of the most delicious croissants. In this blog; you’ll find some of my favorite places to indulge in croissants.

Redondough

When in Redondo Beach, California; one must check out Redondough. Walking into this place; one will be instantly greeted with the fresh smell of croissants and donuts! They’re famous for their churro donuts but their croissants are also quite fabulous. My favorite croissants from here are the pineapple croissants and the regular croissants.

Torrance Bakery

I love getting breakfast at Torrance Bakery. Their croissants partnered with a coffee from their coffee bar make for the best and most relaxing mornings! Their plain croissants are huge and so delightful!

85C Bakery Cafe

Fresh bread!! Fresh croissants and more can be found at the local 85C Bakery Cafe. My favorite from here is their chocolate croissant. I love the touch of dark chocolate.

Calf and Chick

Calf and Chick is a cute eatery in Torrance, California. They have fresh baked goods, omelets, crepes, sandwiches and coffee. Their croissants are huge and well worth the value. At only $2.99; their croissants are the best deal! I love the chocolate croissants here.

Hiccups Barista

Hiccups Gardena introduced a new barista concept to their cafe last year. As a part of this concept; they added banh mi style pressed croissants. I absolutely love these croissants. My favorite is with cha or Vietnamese sausage. You can also get it with egg or American sausage.

Sweet Wheat

There’s a sweet spot in Redondo Beach, California and they offer some sweet and tasty French pastries. This place is no other than Sweet Wheat. They’ve got a variety of croissants and it’s definitely hard to pick which to get as they are all delicious! I like the chocolate croissant with almonds.

Eclair Cafe

French croissant bliss can also be found at Eclair Cafe in Torrance, California. They have eclairs, macrons and croissants! I love the chocolate croissants here too.

Offset Coffee

Offset Coffee is my favorite coffee spot in all of the South Bay! They’ve got two locations; Torrance and El Segundo. Aside from having the best hazelnut latte; they’ve also got the best strawberry croissant! Their pastries are sourced locally from FarmShop and Bakers Kneaded.

Croissant crush in full swing! The places above are my favorite spots to enjoy the buttery, flaky bread. I’d love to hear about other places that offer delicious croissants and so if you have any recommendations so let this Hello Kitty Foodie know 😀.

Hello Kitty Foodie Year in Review 2021!

Hello Kitty Foodie Year in Review 2021!

2021 is about to wrap up and it was truly another quite unique year. With another year of the pandemic; restaurants needed our support more than ever. Looking back through this year; I’m happy to see several new spots open up and thrive this 2021! In this blog post; I share some of my new favorites in the South Bay.

The Standing Room Torrance

The Standing Room is a classic favorite in the South Bay. The original location located in a Redondo Beach liquor store continues to be a hot spot for locals and tourists alike. It was nice to see in the second year of the pandemic; The Standing Room opened up another location in Torrance, California. After closing down the one in Hermosa Beach; the Torrance location is a good sign that one can surpass difficulties that this pandemic has brought and succeed. The Torrance location is now 11 months strong and serving up many delicious eats such as their huge and tasty Napoleon burger.

You must come here hungry 😁.

Raising Canes Torrance

Raising Canes was another spot that showed they can rise up through the challenge of Covid! They opened up two locations in the South Bay this year; the first being the one in Torrance, California. The second is in Gardena, California. Now South Bayers can have fill and more of their crispy chicken tenders and Cane sauce. Yum!

Two Hands Torrance

Torrance definitely had an abundance good new eats this year! Two Hands Torrance opened up at the Torrance Crossroads this 2021 and I for one will never look at corn dogs the same way again! This place has the best Seoul Fresh Corn Dogs! Made fresh to order; one can enjoy corn dogs topped with unique toppings like rice puffs and Hot Cheetos powder. It’s different and delicious. 😋

Maru Kitchen

Another amazing Korean spot that opened up this year was Maru Kitchen. This place has some great bulgogi dishes. Their chicken bulgogi is a must try. Tender, moist and oh so tasty; it truly is a treat.

Gaya Korean Tofu and Grill Torrance

If one speaks of Korean food; one can’t forget soon tofu! I was thrilled to see Gaya Korean Tofu and Grill open up this year. They are my new favorite when it comes to Soon Tofu in the South Bay. The dumplings and beef is a heartwarming soup that is perfect for any soon tofu fan.

Prima Cafe

Speaking of favorites; many know I love boba! Prima Cafe that opened up in Lomita has some of the best boba in town. Their drinks also has a special nod to the South Bay via their names.

Presotea Torrance

Torrance was definitely popping with the boba places this year! (Popping 🤪 and boba…get it?) All jokes aside; this boba fan simply loved all the new spots opening up. Presotea is another new go/to place for me.

With teas made out of fresh tea leaves; their drinks are natural and flavorful!

Sprinkles Del Amo

I love supporting small businesses yes, I do. Yes, I do! If that tune sounds familiar; then it’s because it’s quite similar to the I love Sprinkles song that you’ll hear when you get a Sprinkles cupcake from their atm. I used to only dream about trying out their cupcake atm machine but with the new Sprinkles atm at Del Amo Fashion center; it became a reality! Sweet dreams do come true!

It’s not easy for new businesses to open up during a pandemic but the above places did and succeeded! I’m happy to see that and even happier to show my support. Please do check out the places above and show them some love too! Thank you for reading and as always thanks for the support of my blog. Wishing you all a healthy and happy 2022!
